How It Works

  • Can an existing gate usually be automated?

    Often yes, provided the gate, posts, and hinges are in suitable condition. A survey confirms whether the structure is stable enough and whether a motor can be mounted safely before any work is agreed.

  • Does retrofitting mean the whole gate has to be replaced?

    No. The aim is to keep the existing gate and add the motor, control panel, and safety devices to it. Replacement is only recommended if the gate is too damaged or structurally unsuitable to take a motor safely.

  • What is checked before the gate is made automatic?

    Gate balance, hinge condition, post rigidity, fixing points, and available space for the motor are all checked. The installer also confirms the opening arc is suitable and that safety beams can be positioned correctly.

  • Will the gate still open if there is a power cut?

    A manual release is fitted as standard so the gate can be moved by hand if power is lost. The exact method depends on the operator chosen, and the installer demonstrates it before leaving.

  • Does the electrical work need to meet any regulations?

    Yes. Mains wiring in outdoor locations must meet current electrical safety standards, and powered gates must comply with applicable machinery safety requirements. All wiring is carried out to those standards as part of the installation.

  • What happens if I delay automating a gate that is already hard to use?

    A heavy or stiff gate puts repeated strain on hinges and posts over time. Continued manual use can worsen hinge wear to the point where remedial work is needed before a motor can be fitted, adding cost to the job.
