Smart Access Control & Intercoms Questions

Every question we get asked about smart access control & intercoms, answered straight.

Questions

How It Works

  • Can a gate intercom open an electric gate?

Yes. It sends a release signal to the gate control panel’s relay input rather than powering the motor directly. The correct wiring depends on the gate operator model and how the control panel accepts an entry signal.

  • Do I need a wired or wireless system?

That depends on the distance from the house to the gate, where power is available, and how much cabling is practical. Wired Cat5 suits fixed installs; GSM or WiFi modules work better where burying cable along a long driveway is awkward.

  • What happens if I delay replacing a failing intercom?

An intercom that cuts out intermittently will eventually stop working entirely, leaving visitors with no way to contact the house. If the gate cannot be released remotely, someone must walk to the boundary every time, which on a long driveway quickly becomes impractical.

Tell Us About Your Entrance

We arrange a local installer to survey your entrance, specify safety edges and photocells to DHF and Gate Safe standards, and quote groundwork and wiring as part of the same job.
